Overall Progress Reports

The Overall Progress report gives several 3 different values to describe a pupil’s attainment and progress across multiple subjects/ profiles:

  • Linear Progress - the apparent progress on the current level. This is what all other assessment systems use
  • Non‐Linear Progress - the progress on the student's current level and any level above (shows progress with spikey profiles)
  • Real Progress - the progress made on the current level.

The Real progress value will be the same as the linear progress value, if the student has remained on the same level. If the student has moved on to the next level, the linear progress will include the achievements they had already made on the next level and the additional progress due to the best fit percentage. This is because linear progress simply looks at the difference between the starting point and ending point. The real progress only includes the percentage increase based on the skills marked as achieved by users.

It is important not to get reliant on one progress value as it doesn't show the whole picture. The non-linear progress value. It is a great way to show progress across multiple levels, but it is essential to focus on the pupil’s current level and support the pupil to achieve the skills they are missing at this level.
