How to use the 'Set Starting Point' feature

We have created an easier way to set a student's starting point (baseline) for each subject and profile. This is a wizard that will guide you through setting the correct level. Every subject and profile that you wish to assess needs a starting point so that progress can be demonstrated and measured.

  1. From the Assessments menu, choose Set Starting Point.
  2. Use the Selection panel to choose your Group Type, Group, Student and Framework. The subjects and profiles on that framework will appear. Any outlined in red have not had a Starting Point set.
  3. Click on Set Starting Point to start the process for a particular subject and profile.
  4. Choose a Starting Point Date. This is the date from which you want to start measuring progress. The options are:
    • Framework Start Date - the date the student was assigned the framework
    • Current Date - the date you are completing this on
    • Custom Date - any date of your choosing
    • Note: We recommend to keep your Starting Point Dates consistent so that your reporting is easier in the future.
  5. Then estimate what level your student is working on. Each level includes information about the developmental age associated with it. If the original estimate is too high or too low, the wizard will help you get to the correct level.
  6. The wizard then asks you to review the skills for the previous level to the one you selected. This is to make sure that the student can already do everything on the previous level. If you are happy with this, click Yes, they can do all of this.
  7. The wizard will take you to the original level that you chose. Tick all of the assessment points that the student can already do. These will be marked as Mastered.
  8. Then click Continue.
  9. Review the selected Starting Point and skills. Select Yes, set starting point.
  10. A green banner will display to indicate that the Starting Point has been successfully set.

  1. If the student cannot do all of skills on the previous level, select those that they cannot do. If you untick enough skills to bring the student below the Best Fit percentage, the system will recommend setting your Starting Point at this lower level.
  2. Select Yes, they are working on this level.
  3. Read the confirmation box and click Confirm.
  4. Review all of the choices that you made and select Yes, set Starting Point.
  5. A green banner will display to indicate that the Starting Point has been successfully set.
